NCSE - Assessment, Preparation and Planning to Support Inclusion (In-Person Session)

This one-day seminar focuses on the SET Guidelines and Indicators of Effective Practice to support assessment, preparation and planning for students with special educational needs.

Course Description:
This seminar provides an overview of the SET Guidelines, Indicators of Effective Practice and incorporates the importance of Student Voice.

It emphasises the importance of assessment to inform teaching and learning.

The seminar outlines the various formal and informal assessment tools that are available to support planning

It explains the Student Support File and outlines how to set effective SMART targets.

The seminar is aimed at classroom and special education teachers.

Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Become familiar with the relevant departmental publications to support assessment and preparation for students with special educational needs.
- Develop an understanding of the principles underlying the SET Guidelines and the roles and responsibilities of school staff in the planning process.
- Understand the importance of student voice and explore ways in which student voice can be captured to support assessment and preparation.
- Gain an understanding of the different areas to assess and explore various formal and informal assessment tools available.
- Gain an understanding of the Student Support File and approaches to support effective target setting.

Participation Requirements
A Padlet link will be provided on the day which will contain resources as well as a copy of the presentation.
It is recommended that participants are familiar with the Updated SET Guidelines and Indicators of Effective Practice.
Please have a hard copy of both to hand (or on your laptop) as these will be referred to throughout the seminar.

An NCSE Certificate of Attendance is available to participants.
Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend.
Typically, substitution for this full-day professional learning experience will only be allowed to class and subject teachers and if it is deemed essential by the principal.
