Leading Learning and Teaching in Schools

Target Group:
Middle leaders/Aspiring Middle Leaders/Heads of Subject Departments/School SSE team members in primary and post primary schools who are interested in developing initiatives focused on learning and teaching in the wider school context.

Course Content:
High-quality learning and teaching are fundamental to everything we as teachers aspire to in our professional practice. This course, offered over a single session will help participants to:

• Identify / share / discuss potential initiatives / themes that may offer opportunities for future development
• Outline the steps to bring the initiative from initial idea to actual teacher practice amongst the wider school community
• Detail the steps to implement an effective action research approach to ensure the initiative succeeds

The course will have a practical focus and will provide opportunities for participants to engage in discussion and share good practice.

Learning Outcomes:

• Identify and evaluate potential initiatives to enhance learning and teaching across the wider school community.
• Develop a clear implementation plan to translate an identified initiative from an initial idea into effective teaching practice across the school.
• Apply action research principles to plan, implement and evaluate an initiative aimed at improving learning and teaching.
• Collaborate with colleagues to share good practice, reflect on professional learning and identify opportunities for the ongoing development of learning and teaching.

Facilitator - Harry Freeman
Harry's experience of providing CPD is extensive, having worked with school leaders and teachers in over 450 schools since 1998. 

Harry has held the position of Strand Leader of the Positive Behaviour Management strand of the Master in Education Programme in Trinity College, Dublin since 2008. He has designed and developed this course and has been lecturing on it since its inception.

Harry offers consultancy services to support teachers in all areas of classroom practice.  He is passionate about learning, teaching and leadership.
