River Ecosystem Campaign - How healthy is your local river? (Globe Program Ireland)

Timeline: March- April 2027

How healthy is your local ecosystem? Visit your local river in this exciting campaign to investigate water quality and ecosystem health and to learn more about the waters around you.

Our local river ecosystems are hugely important, biodiverse areas that offer great insight into the health of the wider ecosystems around them. In this campaign students take a trip to their local river, exploring its health through visual analysis, water sampling, chemical testing, and ecological monitoring. The data you collect is then added to a national river quality database, collected by schools across Ireland.

This campaign is suitable for primary and secondary school students. Each school will receive an equipment pack that includes a thermometer, pH strips, nitrate and phosphate tests and a thermometer. Schools will also have the option to take part in an extra kick sample, to further investigate the rivers health.
