Rainfall and Flooding Campaign - How spongy is your School? (Globe Program Ireland)

Rainfall and Flooding Campaign - How spongy is your School? (Globe Program Ireland)

Timeline: January – February 2027

This campaign is an opportunity for teachers and students to learn about the connection between rainfall and flooding; to explore the effects of rainfall on their local area and to investigate how nature-based solutions can make their school more flood resilient.

Each school gets a free resource pack that contains a rain gauge, pH strips, teaching materials and classroom posters. Beyond recording rainfall, it is totally up to teachers as to how much they choose to do! Materials have also been adapted for both primary and secondary school levels. All the rainfall data collected by schools goes back to the GLOBE database where it gets used by NASA scientists!

The rainfall monitoring period runs for 4 weeks through January and February 2026 with the Expert Webinar, Student Sharing Webinar and GLOBE Ireland Annual Project Competition open to all enrolled schools. Be aware, there is only limited places available so get in quick to avoid disappointment!
